TC-SI001-18 Stressed Brains Can't Learn

Description

This session will focus on the lessons learned from a high school in Washington State that was riddled with violence, drugs and truancy. This alternative school was able to change the culture by addressing childhood adversity. They eventually became a promising model for trauma-informed schools. The documentary, Paper Tigers, will be referenced to learn about issues such as toxic stress and how as educators, we might support struggling students who are impacted by it.
