Welcome to Mr. Szelest's Criminal Justice webpage. I have taught Social Studies for almost twenty two years, the last twenty years at Northtowns Academy an alternative program of Erie 1 Boces. I am currently the Criminal Justice Instructor at Potter Career and Technical Center.. I teach Criminal Justice 1 and Criminal Justice 2 .I also incorporate Participation in Government to my Criminal Justice 2 Class. As a former law enforcement officer and working with at risk students it has given me a great deal of experience and knowledge to bring to the field of Criminal Justice. I feel the need to take a more hands on approach to learning to help the students obtain their goals in the field of Criminal Justice. Their are a variety of learning abilities in both classes and my goal is to get the students ready for either college or real life. occupations. My approach to teaching is very simple treat the student's with respect and they will respect you. I want the students to have fun but also be able to fill their requirements to obtain a two year credit in Criminal Justice. I want my Seniors prepared to take the NOCTI exam and do well. I want juniors to be prepared for the district developed test and to do well .Student's  will have a professional portfolio to take with them and the skills and knowledge to succeed in the work world. With English Language Arts , Science and Math integrated into the program it will give students a well rounded education.
