• On October 3, students from Mr. Grieco’s and Mr. Daluisio’s Building Trades II class went on a

“real world” field trip sponsored by the WNY Building Trades Council.  The field trip was held at the Operating Engineers Training Facility in Lakeview NY.

The students spent the day being exposed to most of the building trades unions that operate in WNY and NY State as a whole.  They were given the opportunity to participate in the operation of heavy equipment and to view and to experience first hand, most of the trades.  They were given information on apprenticeship and journeyman programs.

In addition to lunch, the students were given hard hats, safety glasses and “goodie bags” with lots of information regarding apprenticeships and journeyman programs offered by the trades. The students experienced first hand, what a day in the life of a building trades worker can be like.

More than a few students during the day were overheard saying “what a great opportunity it was” and “it’s amazing how much money you could make doing something that you really like.”  This was the eighth time that the students have attended this function.
