• COURSE DESCRIPTION: Cosmetology is a two- year program that covers all required topics to a achieve Cosmetology New York State license. Daily attendance is a MUST, since 1,000 hours are needed in order to be eligible to take the New York State Board exams (written and practical).

     

    JUNIOR YEAR: perfect attendance 405 hours

    SENIOR YEAR: perfect attendance 405 hours                     TOTAL   810 HOURS

     

    There is Option 95 during the summer for juniors to attend between their junior and senior year. Student must provide their own transportation and there is a fee for attending the 95 hours during the month of July. Additional hours can be attained after graduation through Workforce Development for a fee.

     

     

    COURSE ACTIVITIES:

    Approximately 1/3, (34%) of the classroom hours are devoted to attaining related theory information. These consist of lecture, demonstration, quizzes, homework assignments, chapter tests, and portfolio assignments. Science, Math and English are included in our curriculum.

    Approximately 2/3, (66%) of the classroom hours are devoted to lab work. Students will practice learned skills on each other, mannequins, and clients. A  mid-term and final exam will be given in both theory and lab work.

     

    SUPPLIES:

    Kit: Students must purchase a cosmetology kit, which cost around $125.00.

    Uniform: All students must wear, black smock with sleeves, which may be purchased at Sally’s, Cosmo Prof, or A&A Beauty.(Approximately $20)  Black dress pants or skirt with socks, panty hose, or tights. Solid black shoes with closed toes and closed back are also required.

    Supplies: Large 2 1/2"-3" binder, lined paper, 20 dividers with tabs, small 1" binder with front pocket for portfolio, 20 plastc protective sleeves, pen, and pencil.

     

    GRADING:
    A grade beginning with 20 points will be assessed daily based on the following: Respect, responsibility (being prepared with required uniform, tools, assignments), teamwork, attitude, effort
    attendance, and participation.  Another lab grade will be given for hands-on-skills.
