The teacher:  My name is Cheryl Geary – Rothenberg and I have been teaching for over 15 years in the field of special education. Besides special education I am also certified in elementary education and school district administration. I periodically represent Erie 1 BOCES at the state education department as I write and grade exam questions for the NYS teacher certification examinations. Also, I have a variety of experiences in special education early intervention. In the summer program, I act as a head teacher for the special education summer school program for Erie 1 BOCES. Like many teachers I endeavor to continue with my educational plans as I make life-long learning a priority!

Our staff:  The room is what is entitled under the federal programs as a 6:1:A. The 6 reflects children, the 1 represents 1 teacher, and the A is indicative of a classroom aide.  Yet, some children may have his or her own aide or a nurse. This would be noted on the child’s given IEP (individual educational plan). Thus, our staff count will vary from time to time as an IEP can change.  However, at the very least a teacher and a class aide would always be present. Parents should contact the teacher for specific details about particular staffing needs and / or details.

Children:   Based on the aforementioned, it is a class that will have 6 children in it and the children have an IEP. We strive to meet the goals listed on the IEP as success is our first priority.

Erie 1 BOCES:  Our program falls under the direction of the exceptional programs division. Mr. J. Pope is the supervisor and he can be reached at 716-821-7098 & all correspondence should be sent to 355 Harlem Rd. West Seneca, NY 14224.
