• Course Description:
    This Senior Course prepares students pursuing a career pathway in nursing.  Curriculum includes anatomy and physiology, growth and development, nutrition, microbiology, and medical terminology.  Students apply their new skills in supervised clinical experiences.  Opportunities will be provided to include a shadowing experience with registered nurses working in a variety of health care settings.
     
    Purpose of the Program:
    To prepare students for entry into a post-secondary practical or registered nursing program.
     
    Skills, Knowledge, and Behaviors to be Developed:
    1.  Identify the roles and responsibilities of the practical and registered nurse.
    2.  Explore and understand the newest trends/options in the current health care industry.
    3.  Identify, understand, and practice measures that utilize legal and ethical issues in health today.
    4.  Develop techniques to prevent the occurrence and transmission of communical diseases.
    5.  Incorporate knowledge of physical and psychological aspects of the individual in planning and
           implementing care of the client through all stages of development.
    6.  Practice and perform basic personal care skills competently.
    7.  Develop an understanding of the structure and function of the human body.
    8.  Detect deviations from a healthy state and how disease processes influence the individual.
    9.  Develop and incorporate appropriate use of the English language and medical terminology in utilizing
           the nursing process.
    10. Safely and accurately incorporate math fundamentals within the framework of nursing.
