    Course Syllabus

    Purpose of the Course:

Students that are enrolled in U.S. History & Government will become familiar with events that have happened (or are happening) in specific part of the world during a specific time. Students will investigate issues and themes from multiple viewpoints and make global connections and linkages that lead to in-depth understanding. Students will explore the intellectual skills of history and the social science disciplines.

What is expected of you the student:

    1. Be on time to class. All classes will begin at their appropriate time. All classes will start after the bell rings.

    1. Please observe the rules of the classroom:

    (A. Do not talk out of turn in class.

    (B. Do not disrupt another student in class.

    (C. Do not disrupt the teacher during class.

    (D. Treat all classroom material provided to you with care.

    3.   All assignments (in class or otherwise) and quizzes are expected to be completed by you the student.

    1. Be prepared for class. The student should have the following in class at all times: pen or pencil, loose leaf paper for the folder, any materials requested by the teacher, and any previously given assigned work completed before the start of class.

    5.   All students are to observe the rules previously stated to you in the Student School Contract.

    Procedure:

The classes will consist of both lecture/note taking and in class assignments. All notes and assignments will be collected at the end of the class period. The folders will stay in the room except for a day prior to a quiz where you the student will be able to take them home for proper preparation for the quiz. The folders will be returned to the teacher on the day of the quiz. When the folders are in your possession, be careful not to let anything happen to them. They are your folders and you will need the contents inside to pass the regents exam!

There will not be any folder checks throughout the year. The organization of the folder is strictly up to you. Therefore, the contents of the folder will not affect your grade in any way. However, make sure your folder has all of the notes, in class handouts, quizzes, and work week assignments.

There will be an assignment given to you the student during the work week away from the class. The assignment will be given on the Friday of the school week and due the Tuesday of the following school week depending on the school schedule. Each assignment will be scored on a 20 point basis. Despite the shortness of these assignments, they must be completed. Failure to compete the work week assignment by the due date will result in a five point penalty for every day that it is not turned in.

The class is always open to discussion on all of the topics that will be presented to you the student. Therefore, class participation is a mandatory requirement for every day. Class participation will be recorded on a daily basis on a scale of 0 to 3.

    Participation Scale:

0 = no participation in class or removed for disruptions and misbehavior

1 = little to no participation

    2 = average participation

3 = exceptional participation in class.

    Grading Policy:

Your grade will be determined by averaging the grades of the three quizzes given throughout the quarter, five work week assignments @ 20 points each counting as a quiz grade and a grade for class participation. Each quarter average and the final exam grade will be averaged together to give a final average.

    Finally:

The subjects and curriculum that we as a class will cover throughout the school year is not going to be easy. Anyone who has any problems with the material should seem me as soon as possible to work them out. I, the teacher, am here for your benefit. I ask that all of my students use my abilities to the fullest extent. There is nothing that cannot be done if we work together.

Finally, I am looking forward to a school year that will be fun challenging and rewarding for us all. Good Luck!
