Potter, Kenton & Harkness SkillsUSA Clubs Win $10,000 Community Service Grant from Lowe's!
The SkillsUSA clubs of Potter, Kenton and Harkness Career & Technical Centers applied for a $10,000 community service grant offered by Lowe’s to SkillsUSA chapters.  Across the country over 300 clubs applied, ten were awarded the grant, including the Erie 1 BOCES clubs.

Our clubs proposed to do a project in conjunction with the Buffalo Central Terminal Restoration Corporation (BCTRC) to revitalize the restrooms on the main concourse floor of the terminal, create a historic Central Terminal museum and paint murals on specified walls.  The summer was spent planning and the work started this fall.

This is a great opportunity for our students and schools.  Working on the Terminal will give students and teachers an up close view of great architecture and a prominent piece of our History.  All participants will have a chance to improve their teamwork skills and experience a sense of accomplishment by doing “tangible” work – they will immediately see results of their efforts.  They’ll feel a part of something bigger than themselves by helping the BCTRC move forward in their work.

Channel 7 is filming a documentary on the Buffalo Central Terminal.  Of the 22 minutes that will be shown, five minutes will be devoted to our clubs and the work we are doing - how cool is that?!
