• The Canterbury Tales:

    The Satire of Geoffrey Chaucer
    Chaucer's Tomb
The tomb of Chaucer at Westminster*

In this unit we will be studying the satire of The Canterbury Tales written by Geoffrey Chaucer during the 14th Century in England.  The tales poke fun at everything from Courtly Love (no, not the person from Hole and wife of Kurt Cobain; that's Courtney Love) to flatulence.   Our pilgrimage will start with defining and recognizing satire in The Simpsons and South Park.  We will take a side trip into the life and times of Geoffrey Chaucer, and pay homage to Middle English.  Pack your bags, don your traveler's cloak, and mount your palfrey; it's off to Canterbury.
