Resources for the Visually Impaired or Blind and other Handicap needsVisually Impaired or BlindNYS School for the Blind 585-343-5384 ext. 340, is located close to Buffalo in Batavia, New York. The school offers classes, programs, outreach, training, recreation and more, all free of charge to qualified students between ages 5 - 21. Transportation is included.Western New York offers a variety of services and resources in many different counties; many are listed on the Erie County website.An excellent resource in Buffalo is the Olmsted Center for the Visually Impaired 882-1025.Talking Book and Braille Library offers books, other materials and numerous resources.Hearing, Mobility, Seizures and Service DogsRescued Dogs Trained to Help: Specially trained dogs are available to those handicapped individuals who are not blind. Canine Helpers for the Handicapped 716-433-4035 offers dogs that have been rescued and trained in the following area: Hearing, Service, Mobility, seizure-alert and therapy.
